SAILTECH SAILMAKERS

WHAT WE DO AND WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT SAILTECH

The young, vibrant SAILTECH team has as many sea-miles of experience between them as any in the business. This wet-backside training is combined with impressive knowledge of the sailmaker's art, plus the latest design and manufacturing technology. This is not limited to sails, but also to sail-covers, trampolines, dodgers and any other accessories from canvas or sailcloth

Ben Kelly and Tim Berg finished 29th in the F18 Catamaran World titles out of boats from over a dozen countries. Our new SAILTECH sails were constructed using a new range of crosscut laminates called Flex produced by Dimension Polyant. The fabric does away with the need to use full tri-radial seam layouts and makes extremely smooth sails as seen in the photo.

Ben Kelly, director of Sailtech has been sailing since he was only 7 years old, starting in Sabots , one of which was built for him by his Dad. In later school years, Ben was mentored and trained by Colin Metcher, eventually becoming a formal apprentice and working alongside Gary Martin and Scott Vennes. Ben took over the management of Horizon Sailmakers QLD only 2 years into his apprenticeship and in 2004 became the sole owner of this business.

Much of Ben's real-world experience has come from sailing at championship level. In the Sabot, Ben was in the QLD State team for 3 years, then sailed 125's and 420's at State & National championship level. He was a finalist (with Scott Vennes) in the 505 World Titles and outright winner in a Cherub of the National Junior title (2nd overall). Ben has sailed for 5 years on Keith Glover's TRILOGY winning 4 National titles in the Australian Multihull class. Ben is currently working up to the F18 World Titles.

The business has expanded rapidly, with cruising yachts, offshore racer, multihull, skiff and dinghy customers from every state of Australia, as well as many international yachts (including Helsal and Hoftein), Due to this expansion of business, a new national identity became important - hence SAILTECH - still owned by Ben Kelly and operated by the same loyal and experienced team

Lee Randall - has a long list of successes in Corsair dinghies, plus wide experience in all classes of sailing, from small dinghies, off-the-beach cats, and yachts of all sizes. This provides a great level of support for customers of all interests and types of sailing.

Brendon Mann - a gun Lazer sailor with a passion for dinghy sailing. Exposure and experience gained with many regatta winners make Brendon an accomplished all-rounder.

"I have observed the professionalism and commitment of these guys with many of our customer boats, as well as my own "Raider" - Geoff Berg - All Yacht Spars

"I like their combination of innovation, detail and their ability to deliver what they promise" - Keith Glover, Owner "Wraith of Odin" & "Trilogy"

"Sails are the essence of boat speed and good looks and that’s exactly what Ben’s personal service has provided Coco Loco. Despite a limited budget one can’t afford not to have the best available sails. Out on the race track there’s nothing like knowing you have an edge.’ - Gary Scott - Coco Loco

They really understand crusing multihulls - they have done a fantastic job. 'Little Bear' sails faster, points higher, tacks more easily and is beautifully balanced. Wish I had found these guys earlier - Alan Loveard "Little Bear" - a 9.1 metre cruising catamaran
